I've really dropped the ball on the blog! I've been teaching adult colored pencil classes and childrens' drawing classes which are enjoyable but take time from my own work. People are emailing me requesting classes so I am exploring teaching venues out of my area, etc.
Here is my almost-finished piece. If you click on the image to enlarge it, you will see vertical lines which are really prominent in the photo. I have been conversing with Linda Lucas Hardy who is very familiar with the UArt paper and she has told me what I feared, I worked against the grain of the paper. I am also using the older version of the paper, UArt has changed the color and the surface texture (finer grit now) but I haven't worked on the new paper yet. Let this be a lesson to me and any of you who use the paper .... make sure you work with the grain! I'm going to try spraying with with workable fixative to see if I can cover the grain at all and work more pencil into the drawing.
These are two pieces I worked on in a pastel workshop last weekend. We worked in the studio from still life setups and I came home and finished them up. The top piece is done on Wallis Paper (white) and the tulips are done on Sennelier La Carte in a terra cotta color. Looking at these drawings, I realizek that as an artist I am a colorist. I love bright bold color! I tend to render objects in brighter hues than they actually are.
My latest piece has just been accepted to the Cape Cod Art Association's National Exhibition, June 18-July 13 at the art association in Barnstable, MA. I am happy because this piece took me hours and weeks to complete. I kept putting it down and picking it back up and working on it but I really had fun!
