Boats at dock almost finished

I've really dropped the ball on the blog! I've been teaching adult colored pencil classes and childrens' drawing classes which are enjoyable but take time from my own work. People are emailing me requesting classes so I am exploring teaching venues out of my area, etc.

Here is my almost-finished piece. If you click on the image to enlarge it, you will see vertical lines which are really prominent in the photo. I have been conversing with Linda Lucas Hardy who is very familiar with the UArt paper and she has told me what I feared, I worked against the grain of the paper. I am also using the older version of the paper, UArt has changed the color and the surface texture (finer grit now) but I haven't worked on the new paper yet. Let this be a lesson to me and any of you who use the paper .... make sure you work with the grain! I'm going to try spraying with with workable fixative to see if I can cover the grain at all and work more pencil into the drawing.

Kendra, I wouldn't have noticed the paper grain at all, but thank you for sharing your findings. The light on the dock is spectacular.

I suppose I shouldn't have pointed out the flaws : )

I was wondering how this piece was coming along. Thanks for posting an update. The addition of the water really helps to pull it all together. Interesting info about the grain of the paper.

Knowing how we cp artists tend to work so closely to our paper surfaces, the grain must have been a real headache for you. But believe me when I say the artwork hasn't suffered any. Beautiful piece.
